OM Greece partners with a ministry center near Athens, within walking distance of two refugee camps, where we run daily TeenStreet Hope programs.
Ministry details
Through targeted workshops, arts, sports and small group dynamics we aim to engage refugee teens in a way that is culturally and trauma sensitive, while bringing the hope of Jesus. As teenagers, your team will be interacting as peers and building friendship and sharing life experiences. During the outreach we will have daily team preparation time, prayer meetings, devotionals and debriefs. There will also be a team outing during the week. Prior to arrival we will have several mandatory team planning and training meetings. These meetings will cover cultural awareness, trauma, and program planning and involvement. Each team member will arrive knowing the program and responsibilities, while also remembering we need to be flexible!
Purpose
TeenStreet Hope envisions a world where refugee youth experience hope, belonging, and restoration, enabling them to transform their lives and communities through faith in Jesus Christ. We aim to see mutual growth in the lives of refugee and non-refugee teens as we bring a modified TeenStreet event to those who have previously not been engaged with – refugee teens from different cultural backgrounds and faiths.
Participant profile
You are a teenager that wants to reach out to other teenagers from a different background from yourself. You are excited, and maybe nervous (!) but are willing to learn and be used by God. You have a passion for the marginalized. Experience with sports, arts (dance, theater, painting etc.) or another relevant area is a big plus, but not necessary! You are committed to attending our mandatory pre-outreach team meetings (likely 3x1.5 hours).
Notes
This outreach is specifically for a group of teenagers that comes with a leader (ideal for a church youth group, or Teenstreet small group). Dates can be flexible through the month of July, get in touch and we can see what we can arrange. TeenStreet Hope is a new ministry event which comes under TeenStreet International. Our focus is on reaching Refugee Youth.
